History of the School

Bishop Hippolytus Kunnumkal, the former Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar Diocese invited the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary (SCJM) to run this school for the Diocese and the latter accepted his invitation to carry out this noble task at this place. It is an English Medium day school and is open to all children irrespective of race, creed and caste. The school feast is celebrated on the 8th of December every year. The school is recognized by the School Education Board J & K.

Management

St. Mary’s Convent School, Smailpur, was established in the year 1997 as a Christian Minority Educational Institution. It opened its doors to students on 07 April of the same year. The School is owned by the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar (Catholic Church of Jammu and Kashmir) and administered by its subsidiary wing known as the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society (Reg. No. 1601-S of 1989) under the provisions of article 30 (1) of the Indian Constitution. The School admits students irrespective of race, caste, creed, religion or gender.

Policy

The Policy of Education in the schools run by the Diocesan Education Society is based on the life of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Gospels. This policy encompasses of a growing consciousness of the human dignity and the rights of every person. It enables persons to live in fellowship and mutual helpfulness. The Educational Apostolate of the diocese aims at creating a human society free from prejudice, superstition and discrimination based on gender, religion, caste and economic status; our focus is on concern for others, especially the underprivileged.
